Simple Womans’s Daybook 5/21

As usual, weekly, online or not, I take the time to reflect via http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/ as a devotional activity for Hestia. I encourage others to do the same.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window…
A rainy and stormy night turned into a beautiful cool May Day.

I am thinking…
About my stuffy head, and why it won’t stop.

I am thankful…
for signing a new lease at a new apartment complex, where I will have a room of my own to dance and do yoga in.

In the kitchen…
Today was pierogies, dill carrots and pears. Deliciousness.

I am wearing…
Workout clothes. Including a pair of shorts. They are the only pair of shorts I own.

I am creating…
Working on my audioplay for Made of Fail Productions. Kinda. More or less.

I am going…
No where until Saturday, when I go back to Stonehouse for a wedding.

I am wondering…
When I’ll have time to read my new whole living.

I am reading…
….far too many things to mention. Honestly. Husband gave me a collection of books to read.

I am hoping…
that more boxes miraculous appear like they have been, so we can pack more.

I am looking forward to…
Decluttering more. We’ve weeded out probably about 150 books, if not closer to 200.

I am learning
about all the things that we have in this house now. When did I get so much stuff?

Around the house…
Boxes. Boxes everywhere.

A favorite quote for today…
I’m re-watching West Wing:

Bartlet: Charlie, I wanna hire a woman whose voice I think would fit in nicely around here. She’s a conservative Republican. You think I should do it?
Charlie: Absolutely, Mr. President, cause I’m told that theirs is the party of inclusion.

One of my favorite things…
A late afternoon bike ride, today. Wonderful feeling.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Very little until the wedding, but a good friend is coming into town for it, and I can’t wait to see her.

A peek into my day…
pic.twitter.com/KmdOlkSz
This is my roommates dog. He’s one of two things I’m going to miss when I move, the other being my jacuzzi tub.

Simple Woman’s Daybook 4/10

Once again, I do the Simple Woman’s Daybook as part of my Hestia practice. I encourage others to do the same.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window…
It’s a spring cool outside, and the sun is setting. Haven’t worn my winter coat in weeks.

I am thinking…
Of what things in my life are sentimental, and what is just clutter.

I am thankful…
for families; the ones we are born into, the ones we enter, and those we chose.

In the kitchen…
Today was pierogies, chicken with chili con carne seasoning, and honey carrots.

I am wearing…
lounging clothes.
I am creating…
I need to be working on my script for Sing Nothing but Sky or my waiver database. Guess what, not doing either.

I am going…
Hiking on Saturday , to sushi, LUSH and a Turkish Drop workshop on Sunday. Best birthday weekend ever.

I am wondering…
Whether to go shopping with my mother on Saturday, or take the gift card instead for my birthday. Time to look over the websites.

I am reading…
Gods above, why do I only do these online when I am reading Christian romances? I love the plot structure. It’s comforting, and I can ignore the Jesus in most of them. I think this one is called The Apothecary’s Daughter.

I am hoping…
That the weather stays clear, and that work picks up a bit. I’m spending the afternoons bored as all get out.

I am looking forward to…
See my weekend plans.

I am learning
To clean old jewelry. A friend gave me lots of dance jewelry, but  it’s in bad shape. I’ve got to fix them up.

Around the house…
We’ve started the purging. And yet, I’m getting my mothers kitchenaid stand mixer this weekend, as she ordered a new one last weekend.

I am pondering…
Why Kohl’s doesn’t have an “in store”  filter on their website.

A favorite quote for today…
“NO SORRY, SANTORUM, YOU MUST CARRY YOUR DEAD PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN TO FULL TERM.”

One of my favorite things..
The wonderful bathroom items husband bought for my birthday: a bamboo tub caddy and a bath pillow. He’s trying to make up for years of barely affording to go out for dinner.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
See above: hiking, dancing, family time.

A peek into my day…
Very little work to be done at work. It is very annoying, but it means that people aren’t having as many disasters, and I can do some training.

No photo today; nothing interesting to take pictures of.

Simple Womans Daybook 2/13

Hello there new readers! For those unawares, I complete The Simple Womans Daybook as a devotional activity for Hestia. I urge others wanting to cultivate a relationship with her to do something similar.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window…it’s snowing slightly, and it’s much more likely to ice over. Nothing I’m really happy about.

I am thinking…about the differences between dwelling property insurance forms, homeowner H0-3’s, and mobile home insurance. The life of a Dionysian is always thrilling.

I am thankful…for previous jobs that help me in my thrilling life in insurance. You never know when you are going to need to know how to locate assistive technology.

In the kitchen…I have a pork roast and potatoes going. Nothing spectacular, but nice for a weekday meal.

I am wearing…I’ve changed since I got back from the gym, so sweats and a t-shirt.

I am creating…a new choreography for next months showcase, and possibly an audiodrama. Very loosely working on the latter.

I am going…I’d rather talk about where I’ve been. I went to the Raqs Arcana show in Chicago on Saturday. It was epically awesome, and I somehow ended up at a vegan restaurant, with a seitan french dip. I’m not huge on faux meat, but it was the bread that was lackluster. The sweet potato fries however, were amazing.

I am wondering…You write one little entry about cock…

I am reading…Random regency novels, the second of the Kushiel series, the last of the Nantucket novels, and about 4 magazines. And studying materials. I’m a little scattered lately.

I am hoping…for a nice, quiet week with random appearances by good friends.

I am looking forward to…a couple of rarely seen friends coming into town.

I am learning…Personal Insurance. Yay continuing education.

Around the house…it’s a mess. See going to Chicago this weekend for the reason.

I am pondering…whether to work on my choreo or just sit on the couch for a change. It’s a nice choice.

A favorite quote for today… ““Approach, what’s the tower?”
“That’s a big tall building with glass all around it, but that’s not important right now.”

I might be re-reading my old work, and this was an intro quote to a chapter.

One of my favorite things…Ariellahs red trumpet skirt. And one of those chain vests that one of the local troupes had.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Dinner out before dance class on Wednesday with friends. I’m just chilling this week.

A peek into my day…I finished up a claim for someone who I swear, must be a pagan elder, based on their book collection, then some assistive tech, then I lost focused and studies. Did a quick workout (nuri hate cardio day!), and came home to cook and write blog posts.

Simple Woman’s Daybook 1/31/12

I’ve been remiss in writing these up, and it’s time to get back into the groove. As always, these come from http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/  and I do these as a weekly devotional to Hestia. I encourage others to do the same.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window… A beautiful winter day in January, here in central Illinois. By which I mean it was sunny, windy and 60 degrees.  Our winter is confusing. It snowed this weekend, and sunny and warm a day later.

I am thinking…rather muddled to be honest. I’m sick, as no one warns the wife of a first year teacher about getting sick more often. I left work early, mostly because it’s not fair to my coworkers.

I am thankful…for a husband who will pick food up for dinner and cuddle in the morning.

In the kitchen…well, there’s what was going to be dinner defrosting, tandoori chicken, that I need to put away to make tomorrow instead.

I am wearing…pajamas. And dog hair.

I am creating…mostly snot. But I’ve got a choreography turning around in my head too.

I am going…nowhere this week, except work, gym and class. My car will not take much more.

I am wondering…why I had to be sick on a lifting day. I wanted to lift things up and put them down.

I am reading…various free novels on the Kindle, SM Stirling in the bathtub. Speaking of which, I picked up a lot of free pagan-type books for the Kindle lately. I sort of want to review them. Would people read that?

I am hoping…that I am not light-headed for class tomorrow.

I am looking forward to…registering for Tribal Revolution tonight/in the morning. I’m debating if I want to stay up late to do so, or do it first thing in the morning. Gotta make sure I get into the workshops I want. My problem is that I turn into  a pumpkin at midnight.

I am learning…better lifting form. I have grown so in love with free weight training.

Around the house…we got a new roommate. She’s pretty much a blonde copy of one of our other roommates. So she’s talkative, but a good person.

I am pondering…what to make for lunch tomorrow, since I have no idea what  or how much I’ll be able to eat.

A favorite quote for today… “”For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?“” Pride and Prejudice

One of my favorite things…sinus medication. When it works, it’s amazing. That and tea and infusions. Love of my sick life.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Registering for Tribal Revolution, Dance classes starting back up, more days of cardio and lifting. And you know, work, cleaning and cooking.

A peek into my day…
I don’t have a good camera of my own, so here is a desire of mine: a peacock cupcake

Simple Woman’s Daybook 10/30

This is really embarrassing. WordPress ate my post, and that makes me sad. I will attempt to recreate:

FOR TODAY
Outside my window…
It’s trying to rain. please let it.

I am thinking…
About what to clean today. Since I wrote this, I picked up in the kitchen, put in a load of laundry, and washed the dishes my husband hadn’t yet.

I am thankful…
For warm bread and soup.

In the kitchen…
I learned to make a new soup! a greek lemon-egg soup called agvolemono.

I am wearing…
Comfy clothes!

I am creating…
nothing at the moment.

I am going…
nowhere today!

I am wondering…
why wordpress ate this post.

I am reading…
Just finished Specials in the Uglies series.

I am hoping…
that the husband doesn’t have to spend too long at practice today.

I am looking forward to…
A short week. Taking Friday off to spend with husband.

I am hearing…
the belly dance station on pandora.

Around the house…
I have so much work to do!

I am pondering…
if the gym really will open tomorrow as promised.

One of my favorite things…
my new cell phone. I’m not as much of a techhead as I appear, but I heart it.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
gym, dance, friday off. I’m keeping it simple.

Here is a picture for thought I am sharing…
I had a picture of Occupy Wall Street in the snow, and a quip about how it looks like an urban springwars. It was funny, you should have seen it.

Simple Woman’s Daybook: Eventing edition, 10/7

______________________________

FOR TODAY
Outside my window…
Is making me trying to think up new ways to describe “Indian Summer”. It’s 80, but still feels cool and beautiful. Perfect weather for going to Oktoberfest up in Paw Paw.

I am thinking…
Of my long to do list: Pay a bill, fix the husbands pants, make cookies, finish packing, do some cleaning around the house, get my hair braided, etc.

I am thankful…
For the ability to take days off at will, and not feel like I’m going to cause an epic slowdown at work.

In the kitchen…
I need to make cookies for a friend who is setting up our groups campsite.

I am wearing…
I took today off and am typing in bed while resting on my heating pad. I’m wearing a pair of fleece pants.

I am creating…
Not a lot of creation besides my choreography. Editing is more like it.

I am going…
to a Belegarth event, Oktoberfest, just as soon as nick gets back from working and we load the car.

I am wondering…
What to buy at Friar Tucks for myself.

I am reading…
You’ve caught me in a strange place. I finished my books and haven’t picked up the next one yet. Maybe another Heyer novel.

I am hoping…
For a smooth, drama-free weekend.

I am looking forward to…
See above.

I am hearing…
a fan and cars out the window.

Around the house…
You really don’t want to see the house. It’s a mess.

I am pondering…
More Dr Who as I get things ready.

One of my favorite things…
I get to see my friends this weekend. So happy!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
See above.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…
Armoring up the Husband

Simple Woman’s Daybook 9/15

FOR TODAY
Outside my window…
Yesterday’s rain has cleared into a beautiful, if chilly day.

I am thinking…
On what I’m doing for dinner. I have my plan, but the husband forgot to tell me that he has Open House tonight and won’t be home until after 9. I might still heat up the stuffed shells I had planned, but I might do something else.

I am thankful…
for warm blankets and warmer husbands.

In the kitchen…
Tried a new recipe on Tuesday, following having only limited water Monday and the next morning (upstairs shower broke, and we had the water turned off for the day, turning it on manually for our shower Tuesday) Gnocchi and cheese. I got to buy fancy cheeses, and it was nummy.

I am wearing…
my new to me cream sweater, blue undershirt and jeans. I love a casual workplace.

I am creating…
Section 1 of my choreography is complete, and I’m starting the second tonight.

I am going…
to a wedding on Saturday.

I am wondering…
Where the heck they are registered.

I am reading…
The Dervish House by Ian McDonald. It’s good, but slow reading. Because it deserves to be taken slowly.

I am hoping…
my headache goes away with the tea I’m drinking.

I am looking forward to…
buying a new dance skirt.

I am hearing…
Podfic. I’m working after all.

Around the house…
Still a bit of a mess. Must get on the husband to actually put away his clothes, I use that basket damnit.

I am pondering…
Why I keep getting awards and stuff for just doing my job. Is doing my job instead of chatting really that different from the people around me?

One of my favorite things…
Standing backbends practice. But oh, how I need more yoga afterwards.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Dancing, wedding, cleaning, planning, sleeping.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…

“Women who make a house a home make a far greater contribution to society than those who command large armies or stand at the head of impressive corporations.” Gordon B. Hinckley

(sure, a LDS source, but what a Hestian quote!)

Simple Womans Daybook 9/6

As always, this is a devotional activity for Hestia. I also find it gives me good direction for the week. Much like bed making, sometimes the simple and easy activities are the most important and useful. You can find the prompts at http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/

FOR TODAY
Outside my window…
When I woke this morning, it was dark and chilly, now the sun is shining and it’s still chilly. I love the sudden change to September weather.

I am thinking…
about how exhausting having people over is, and why I keep doing it to myself. I need another day off, I swear, just to recoup from my day off.

I am thankful…
for good friends, excellent steak, and time to sit on pintrest for hours.

In the kitchen…
This week’s attempt at a new recipe is a beef stew. Not that I actually followed the recipe, because I realized I didn’t have tomato past, and husband bitched that he doesn’t like tomato based stews.

I am wearing…
jeans, impractical heels (my only pair) and a polo. It’s work clothes, nothing fancy.

I am creating…
A new recipe, I suppose. And today begins choreography season! Today is beat counting, and if I have time, figuring out how I want to do an entrance.

I am going…
home, straight after work.

I am wondering…
why I am so gosh darn tired. And if dinner will be edible. And when the Gold Gym Express is opening.

I am reading…
Grand Sophy, Georgette Heyer. After that is The Dervish House by Ian McDonald. My bathtub reading is currently Island in the Sea of Time by SM Stirling.

I am hoping…
That my brother are able to schedule their hike at Starved Rock for a time that I can join them. They can be all kitted out, I’ll just bring my boots and a sandwich.

I am looking forward to…
The short week, another quiet weekend (Husband is probably going to his parents to help fix up the house) and the return of hot tea weather. Also, paychecks this week. We’ve been okay, but I’m looking forward to paying off our debts accumulated because the old job forgot to pay the last paycheck.

I am hearing…
Car Talk podcast. Already listened to Wait Wait, and next up is planet money.

Around the house…
It’s sort of clean. We worked on going through paperwork and binders from the college years.

I am pondering…
Going to Club Bellydance in Springfield. I’d like to go next month but 1) Driving sucks and 2) It’s kinda pricey. But it’s a neat concept, blending the Bellydance Superstars with local talent, including my studio’s troupe.

One of my favorite things…
Penzey’s Chicago Steak Seasoning

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Choreography building, keeping the house clean, reading all the book that I’ve recently downloaded, possibly garb and bread baking on Saturday with a friend.

Here is a picture for thought I am sharing…

Simple Woman’s Daybook 8/22

I use the Simple Woman’s Daybook as a weekly devotional activity for Hestia. If you’d like to do the same, or read other people’s responses, visit: http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/

FOR TODAY
Outside my window…
I’ve been so busy this weekend that I’m doing this at work. The window is on the other side of the department. I have it on good authority that it looks nice outside. I can see blue sky over the cubicles.

I am thinking…
about how to best avoid phone calls today. I don’t have the focusing ability to deal with the phone today. So far, so good.

I am thankful…
For a former army recruiting giving my recruitment monkeys from Wolfpack some great pointers. We did really well yesterday getting people to try us out, without me doing the bulk of the talking to college freshmen.
I am also thankful for a gracious and grateful husband who has been nothing but kind and accepting of my help.

In the kitchen…
I made jambalaya last night, to be used mostly for lunches or quick dinners. Tomorrow is a pasta bake, which I might assemble tonight. It’s serving a similar purpose, since Husband has no idea when he will be coming home in the evening most nights.

I am wearing…
black boatneck 3/4 sleeved shirt from Old Navy, Super low-rise Levi’s. For some reason, the super lows fit me best.

I am creating…
I finally finished doing the hafla cut on Be Like Water last night, so this week is all about the dancing.

I am going…
This week is hopefully home and work, I don’t even have dance this week.

I am wondering…
if I’m going to have time to clean what I didn’t get done this weekend, and if the first institute day is going well.

I am reading…
The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide: How to Declutter, Organize, and Simplify Your Life by Francine Jay. Appropriate enough, I was lent it on my kindle.

I am hoping…
to spend a little quiet time with myself tonight, and keep my new exercise program up.

I am looking forward to…
The Hafla on Sunday!

I am hearing…
NPR Planet Money Podcast

Around the house…
it is a mess. You can tell we weren’t able to clean much.

I am pondering…
what order I am supposed to do claims in now that I’m trained in the new system. I’m assuming my rush claims are more important than the new system claims. I should really ask my supervisor…

One of my favorite things…
I spent way too much time playing Oregon Trail on one of the classrooms Ipad’s this weekend. Oh nostalgia!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Dance, yoga, cook, clean, love!

Here is a picture for thought I am sharing…
No picture, since I am at work, but both my sister-in-laws have jobs now! My husband’s sister found a job at a local salon, part-time to start. And my brother’s wife took a part-time job at Joann’s so she can get out of the house every so often. So, big grins all around!

Simple Woman’s Daybook 8/14

http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/

Again, I do this as a Hestia devotional. You should too!

FOR TODAY
Outside my window…
Another beautiful Sunday. A bit windy though…

I am thinking…
About how to freeze the stock I’m making.

I am thankful…
For a school district taking a chance on my husband, and giving him a teaching job!

In the kitchen…
I’ve teared apart the last of the roast from last week, to make chicken fried rice tomorrow. I’ve taken the carcass to make chicken stock, I’ve got herbs in the dehydrator, and I’m going to start a batch of Seminary Muffins after my sister and law watch Tangled.

I am wearing…
Hippie shirt and yoga pants. It’s sunday, and I’m not leaving the house anymore.

I am creating…
Food?

I am going…
Absolutely nowhere. Yesterday was social day.

I am wondering…
How my husband is going to get everything done in a week, when his laptop broke and he hates my mac.

I am reading…
Mistborn, still. Some more of the free romances I’ve downloaded.

I am hoping…
For an easy week at work, and that the people giving me a hard time come to their senses.

I am looking forward to…
Helping my husband get his classroom together.

I am hearing…
Tangled, and my sister-in-law giggling.

Around the house…
Well, my areas are clean. Kitchen will need a good cleaning after I’m done.

I am pondering…
How long it is going to take to get Husband’s computer fixed. We only have to pay for a system restore cd, but it’s going to take time to get here. And he’s got lesson planning to do.

One of my favorite things…
My new shoes. Erm, new to me shoes. I went shopping with a roomie, and that’s dangerous. I bought my first pair of not-practical shoes in a while. They are vintage inspired steve maddens, in green and tan. And adorable.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Work, mostly. Take a day off and go help set up a classroom, get ready for Wolfpack recruiting season.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…

No picture today, just think about a pretty day, and a smiling giddy husband. And me being a teacher’s wife. It’s a wonderful picture for thought.
